This spring, Viola Floral teamed up with Downtown Santa Monica to bring something magical to the heart of the city: Bloom Bar on Third Street Promenade, a free, immersive floral workshop set against the color and energy of the Santa Monica Farmers Market. Every Wednesday morning, guests gathered to slow down, choose the freshest blooms of the season, and learn the art of building a bouquet by hand.
It was, simply put, a beautiful way to spend a morning.
A Morning at the Market
Each Bloom Bar began the way the best floral days do — surrounded by the season's best at the Santa Monica Farmers Market. The experience opened with a guided 20-minute stroll and shop through the stalls, where guests learned how to spot the freshest, most beautiful flowers and what to look for when selecting blooms that will last.
From there, the group headed to the Viola Floral pop-up studio right on the Promenade. With hands-on guidance from the Viola Floral team, guests learned step by step how to create a gorgeous, seasonal hand-tied bouquet — including the often-overlooked essentials of properly cleaning and conditioning flowers so they stay fresh and vibrant at home.
And the best part? Every bouquet was theirs to take home.

Designed for Everyone
One of the things that makes Bloom Bar so special is how welcoming it is. No experience was required, and every skill level felt right at home — from first-time flower lovers to seasoned arrangers looking to refine their technique. Generously sponsored by Downtown Santa Monica, Inc., workshop was offered completely free of charge – all made possible by a partnership rooted in community.

Bringing Community and Creativity Together
More than a workshop, Bloom Bar became a small weekly ritual of connection — a chance to step away from the rush, work with your hands, and share a creative moment alongside neighbors and visitors on the Promenade. It brought community, creativity, and a little extra foot traffic to Downtown Santa Monica in a way that felt genuinely meaningful and refreshingly approachable.
At Viola Floral, flowers are believed to have a way of transforming not just a space, but the experience within it. Watching guests light up as they tied off their very first bouquet was a reminder, again, of exactly why this work matters.

The Partnership Continues
This collaboration with Downtown Santa Monica has been a true joy from start to finish — and it is only the beginning. Bloom Bar has proven to be a beautiful way to bring community, creativity, and connection together in a meaningful, approachable way, and Viola Floral is continuing to build on that momentum as a regular part of the Promenade's Wednesday rhythm.
Here's a look at what the next phase has in store:
-
Intimate group sizes of 10–20 guests per workshop, so everyone gets hands-on guidance
-
A relaxed, one-hour format designed to fit easily into the morning
-
Seasonal flowers sourced directly from the Santa Monica Farmers Market, hand-selected for each workshop
-
A gorgeous hand-tied bouquet to create and take home, just like before
-
Wednesday mornings, 9:30–10:30am, right on the Third Street Promenade
